MOVE OVER BEATLES…THE UNION DOLLS ARE READY TO RULE THE WORLD

Union Dolls Deliver new sound out of Liverpool

More Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll

The Union Dolls are ready to show the world that they have lit the torch as the next sound of Liverpool.  50 years ago it was the Beatles.  Now it is the Union Dolls—a four piece all-girl rock band that play garage punk rock with a raw thrash sound influenced by the likes of the Sex Pistols, Nirvana and White Stripes, but inspired by their hometown heroes—the Beatles.  They bring a exhilarating sound to the stage along with an alluring look that leaves audiences floored as they deliver on stage with a breathless zeal and intoxicating, salacious performance with their sex, drugs, and rocking approach.

The Dolls formed two years ago when sisters Georgia and Claudia Mogan decided to form the band.  They added friends Emily Haywood and Chelsea O'toole to complete the group.  Georgia and Claudia share lead vocals and guitars while O’toole plays bass and Haywood is behind the drums.  When the band began the girls bought second hand instruments and pretty much learned from scratch with the drive and desire to make music their life. They relocated to London three years ago.  “Our goal is to put more rock back into the charts and inspire more female's to get into rock n roll”, Emily said.

The Union Dolls made it to the finals of the Surface Festival which is a competition for unsigned artists which narrows down the best acts in Britain from 2000 to ’the top 3.  This qualified the band to play in the 02 Arena in London which was a ‘great honour’ for the band. They have also played the Echo Arena in Liverpool.

Listen to “She’s More Rock and Roll” a song that is about putting the rock back into music with its driving beat and intense sound, and you will be enthralled as the chorus digs in with Ï want more sex, drugs, and rock and roll.’  The Dolls also put sex back into rock and roll as these ladies dress up for their stage show and deliver with high energy and in your face attitude.

The Dolls are out to make their mark in the music industry and challenge the glass ceiling that seems to come about from the male dominated music industry. Emily said, “Our biggest challenge is breaking into the rock industry as women, there is a lot of stereo types about women in rock for example 'women can’t play' which is so untrue we look up to our idols who are woman and have proven they can rock as well as even better than men such as Lita Ford, Patty Smith, Joan Jett, Janis Joplin and many more.  We aren’t trying to be men by playing in a rock band, we just enjoy playing this type of music and it’s what we’re most interested in. By doing this we will hopefully inspire more females to do the same and then it probably will be more common and not so unheard of for females playing in a rock band, and won’t be so stereotyped.”

The Union Dolls know that the road to their success goes beyond good looks and sound. Georgia said, “It will take a lot of hard work and determination to make a mark on the music world, it’s a tough industry to break but we are confident in ourselves and we are going to carry on pushing until we do. We really don’t want our music to be throw away music we want it to stand the test of time and need to carry on writing more and more hit songs in order to do this."

Outside of the music the Dolls are going to school with Georgia and Claudia studying fashion (see image) while Chelsea and Emily study music (see sound).  They put their education to use with the music and fashion they create making their performance memorable.

The Dolls left their roots of Liverpool and headed to London.  “We relocated to London around 3 years ago, the music down in London is really cool and trendy and I think we fit in fine but also stand out at the same time to most bands as were an all-female band and have a really strong image,” said Claudia.”

After taking their sound to the UK they have their sites on Germany, the U.S. and the world. Georgia said, “We want to play more shows in different places like America, around the UK and Germany is also a place we would like to visit as a lot of bands have started out here and of course this is where the legendary Beatles started out, as a Liverpool band ourselves we would love to follow in their footsteps.”

“The Beatles inspired us the most to get into music, we thought if four boys from Liverpool can make it worldwide then why can’t four girls from Liverpool do the same”, said Chelsea. Like their predecessors image is something that will help set the Dolls apart.  “As for our image, said Georgia, we want it to be really strong so someone could recognize a Union Doll if they see one and we love playing dress up with clothes, makeup and our hair making it really wild and and outrageous. Red lips, big hair, leather, studs, stockings and suspenders, tartan, crop tops--you get the picture!”

The Dolls also draw major inspiration from The Runaways and Cherie Currie. "Cherrie Currie she is a massive inspiration and one of the reasons we got in a band, said Georgia.  Yes we always wear that type of stuff on stage we really get into character. We love to perform. its sort of the Union Dolls costume, but is also is just a more exaggerated version of what we wear from day to day.  On stage we wear suspenders, denim hot pants, leather jackets and rock dress's, not as much underwear as Cherrie wore--we try and combine that look but with a more modern edge."

The Dolls plan to play shows in the UK, record a new EP and video release during the summer.  Be sure to follow this band on Facebook, Twitter and Reverbnation.  Be prepared to embrace a whole new vibe of music with the Union Dolls who bring a of fiery sound, irresistible hooks and a cornucopia of fashion to the stage and could just have a new revolution in the works so be prepared to join in the excitement and put more rock and roll into your veins with this band who will rock your socks off.
