Joan ov Arc have delivered their own Live Rock and Roll with the new release on CD that is getting a lot of acclaim including play from Alice Cooper on Planet Rock Radio. JOANOVARC are THE FIRST BRITISH FEMALE BAND TO be FEATURED ON THE HIT XBOX GAME ‘ROCKBAND’. Their new LP released in January was recorded at Rockford Studieos with Grammy award winning record producer Gil Norton (Foo Fighters ,Jimmy East World, Pixies). Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson commented, "These girls can shred!" They have opened and supported many national acts including Slade, Girl School, Toploader, Deborah Bonham, Bonnie Tyler, Toto, Beth Hart, Sarah Smith (USA), Eighties Matchbox B-line Disaster, Marillion, Adam Ant, Bad Company, Tenors of Rock and Never the Bride. They have toured world wide including to the United States.
Joan ov Arc have been gaining success for several years after forming in 2004 hailing from London, England. They have gained national and international attention and back for their best in 2016. The band includes Laura Ozholl – Rhythm Guitar/Bass/Vocals; Sam Walker – Lead Vocals/Bass/Rhythm guitar; Deborah Wildish – Drums/percussion andShelley Walker – Lead guitar /Backing Vocals. JOANovARC have combined influences from AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Foo Fighters and Jimi Hendrix to create their own unique sound, and combined with energetic stage show that is captivating.
"We are 4 women that will rock your socks off!" says Sam Walker. We started this for pure enjoyment of playing Rock music and people really started to enjoy our shows and records. Joanovarc has now become more of a full time job that we absolutely love and has grown from strength to strength with a great team of people promoting and supporting our music."
Joan ov Arc were signed to Holier Than Thou Records and released 'Live in the Studio'. They have just released their new single Live Rock and Roll. "Our latest single 'Live Rock n Roll' is about all the greatest rock moments in one song. There is a rocking rhythm and guitar riff that gives you a bit of Black Sabbath, a Led Zeppelin drum fill, an axle rose vocal and an Iron Maiden shredding guitar solo! The track has all the elements of the bands we have been inspired by. It's a 3 minute rock n roll track, best heard on a very loud stereo! The next single 'White Trash' to be released is a lot different but still has a rock edge but we would say it's more bluesy and radio friendly."
Joan ov Arc play serious rock and roll and are not a band to be taken lightly. They are filled with solid substance and pure rock melody. "We have to say 'being female' was an obstacle at first. We have had abuse at gigs in the past, sexist remarks, being groped, etc the list goes on but after a while we decided to turn things around and use our gender to our advantage! Our music is very powerful and we generally blow people's ears off these days! We are respected but we still need to prove a point most times we enter a new stage."
If any band is leading the charge it just might be Joan ov Arc to help break down the walls in the music business but they also know first hand and from history the barriers that have existed for decades. "There has been an amazing breakthrough for women in the music industry since people follow acts via the internet and download. It must have been very tough in the era of 'Girlschool' and 'The Runaways' with Joan Jet. They were in a world where women wouldn't dare play rock music. We are very lucky and owe a lot to Motörhead for supporting women in rock! God bless Lemmy. The music industry cannot dictate to us anymore, we dictate to them now."
While recording the latest work with Producer Gil Norton stands out as the bands biggest achievement no one can look past the thrill of playing around the world and in front of over 10,000 fans at a festival. "When we played to over 10,000 at the Harley Davidson festival in Morzine, France. It was the best crowd in the world, they loved rock music and really appreciated JOANOVARC. The buzz was better than any drug you could ever imagine."
With the single release, the band will finish recording the tracks for the new CD followed with touring. "We are releasing the next single and finishing our album with 'Gil Norton' and then the touring begins. We will tour the album in Israel, Mediterranean, Europe, India and America. Exiting times ahead."
With all the success and stories involved with Joan ov Arc, Sam said, "We are all great friends and have been through everything together, heartache, death, illness, sweat, blood, great times, hang overs, celebrations, fights, bad management and tears! Our unit is unbreakable and it helps that 2 of us are sisters."
The band found out that it was getting attention of legendary rocker Alice Cooper who had put them on the Planet Rock playlist. "A fan contacted the band to say they'd heard us play listed on Planet Rock national radio which was an amazing achievement, but then to hear that Alice Cooper was supporting our record and had played this more than once on his show was incredible. We were speechless as he is one of our rock idols. We saw him perform with the Foo Fighters in the UK and to think he would be playing our record a year on was unbelievable."
