Listen to Nervosa and without a doubt you will taste the metal that they drive right through your solar plexes. Energetic and nervous, as the band name states. Open your eyes and you will view four women from Brazil leading the assault with guitars and drum sticks in hand.
The all-female band have been hammering hard and heavy throughout Brazil playing together with bands such as Exodus, Exumer, Grave, Samuel and Raven, and Artillery. With over 40 shows played they won honorable mention on YouTube with the most watched video clip “Masked Betrayer”.
The band’s influences include Slayer, Sepultura, Exodus, Destruction, Sodom, Death, Krisiun, Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, Torture Squad, Venon, Pantera, Korzus, Kreator, and Deicide.
The band includes Fernanda Lira on bass and vocals, Fernanda Terra on drums and Prika Ameral on guitar. They hail from Sao Paulo and draw plenty of raves from bands and media with their intense music that will knock your socks off. They signed with Napalm Records in 2010.
Honest music is what Lira says Nervosa is about. "I want the music world to know that we make our own music honestly because we like it the way we do it and are not a band that is ‘manufactured by a company or a manager.’"
Lira has had a life long love for music and started playing guitar at age 14.
"Since when I was born, I always loved music. I began to play guitar with 14 year old, one year after, I formed my first band, that it was with women, but it was not successful. After the facts, I never more played in a female band. At 2010, I played in a band (Innervoices (death/thrash metal)), and we needed of a drummer, my friend told me of Feranda Terra, and I did a proposal, but We decide begin a new band formed only for women.
HONEST METAL FROM NERVOSA
"I hope to remain making music and travel the every world, know people and friends. Make music is the essence, is what we love. If fun is a consequence!"
Lira believes that although there are only a handful of all female bands in Brazil that they are on equal ground as far as producing music goes. "We are equal at men, We are sincere, We make music with the same influences that men, for us all is so natural, but some people have prejudice, but most is free this prejudice. Female band still is new, there is not many. We hope see many bands.
Continued growth as a band is something Lira believes Nervosa will do as they continue. "We receive many cheers, but we know that have to improve. It is an evolutionary process, the experiences go to bring out your best.
The ladies hope to keep the band playing as much as possible because they are on a ride that they do not want to get off of. Making music fills their veins and this, they say, is their biggest challenge--to keep the tour, don't stop to play and not stop recording. This is the big challenge! We want to continue for many years making music and have support to turn this into reality.
Have respect the same way that male band, and other challenges of equal. Female bands always will have obligation of prove to be true, because the people think that band exist by cause of image, of appearance, and It's not true. So We have prove this.
In Brazil the things are difficult, but metal scene is much faithful, in our country does not exist supporting for the metal, everything happens regardless of form underground. We play much in São Paulo that is where we live and in Minas Gerais, this are the states more populous and rich, but in Northeast and south of Brazil there is a metal scene much thrives.
Lira says that the writing comes from life in general--reality, conflict, civil war, untruths, and people who bring wrath on others. She said, "These things are from our experiences and subjects that we believe are necessary to say. A point of discussion and think about trying to improve your life."
As for a live show, expect true energy. "We give ourselves both body and soul in every show we do. Thrash metal is our life!"
