Nelson Can make Apples out of INDIE MUSIC
 
It all started with Apple Pie!  Nelson Can wrote a song for a new band after taking several years off from their first attempt at creating music and the next thing they knew were playing at one of Europe’s largest music festivals, the Rockside Festival,  and the band found itself getting immediate attention and the bookings took off along with the band.
Nelson Can include Selina Gin on lead vocals, Signe Signesigne on bass and Maria on drums.

The Indie rock band from Denmark formed in 2011 and have already been included in Rolling Stone Magazine and the New Musical Express and have supported the Grammy winning Black Keys.  There sound is unique as the band do not include any guitars and utilize only bass and drums yet derive a powerful  and driving sound with influences that include the White Stripes, Black Keys, Gossip, Depeche Mode, Patti Smith and Joy Division.
“We had a little excess money we decided to spend on recording. So we made the song Apple Pie. We did everything backwards really. We actually put the music on hold for several years before that and suddenly we ended up realizing that this was what we should have done all along. Being in a band and creating music together.”

“We have been asked a number of times, if the most important thing about our band is that we are women – the answer is: No. The most important thing about our band is our very unique sound from only bass, drums and vocals. This isn't about us not recognizing that we're women – on the contrariety. We just get tired of the subject from time to time because we're not playing our music we're women. We're playing music because we enjoy it! And we happen to be women. (It would of course be a lie if we told you that boys and guitars were allowed in the band.”

 

"Bottomline is: We don't think of ourselves as being victims. It's more the other way around. We see this as an opportunity to show the world who we are and what we can do!
We like to see ourselves as role models for other women. We hope to start a fire in other women and girls around the world – to make them want to try it out! See if it takes them anywhere.  Actually we think that some of the best facts about Nelson Can isn't about us being a girl band – but that the whole thing started as a lie. We didn't know we could play music. Guitars aren't allowed. And that it took us 24 hours to write and record Apple Pie."
