HOT SHEETS
RAW PUNK ENERGY
The Hot Sheets are loaded with energy and punk attitude direct out of Salem, Oregon and are ready to set the world on fire with their music. They all got together in 2016 with Karen McFarlane, (Dropkick) on guitar and vocals; Jessica Amos (Claw) on bass and vocals; and Jamie Sloan (Bangz) on drums. While McFarlane had been playing for several year Sloan had never played drums before but took on the challenge so the three could start making music and have bee pumping up the scene with plenty of energetic vibes and solid riffs along the way.
“Hot Sheets came together very organically. We started out as friends with shared values as community activists and spiritual seekers, which translated really well into forming a band and making music together. When Hot Sheets came together in 2016, Karen had been playing in punk bands for over 25 years and always dreamed of putting an all-female band together. Jamie, having never played drums, told Karen she’d be her drummer then immediately bought a drum kit and started practicing. Around that same time, Jessica, who had never played an instrument before, started playing bass “just because.” She became the obvious final addition to what would later become Hot Sheets.”
Hot Sheets kicked off with Karen doing most of the songwriting which is inspired by her own experiences and emotions. We’re now moving into a phase where the songwriting is more collaborative.” To date the band released their self titled EP in February and are ready to build on this in the upcoming months. Our biggest achievement to date is our self-titled EP that was in released February 2018. “When we started the recording process we had only been playing for a year. It’s a really big deal and we’re SO happy with how it turned out. At this time, early Summer 2018, we are focused on songwriting. It means doing fewer shows as well as continually tapping into beginner’s mind, which keeps us fresh and creatively energized.”
“Our primary goal is to have fun and inspire change through music. We are especially passionate about empowerment, as well as creating awareness through personal and cultural reflection. We also want to inspire other people, especially girls and women, to pick up instruments themselves and start playing music if that’s what they want to do. We love music and we love to rock. We are all curious and love to explore ourselves, and the world, in new ways. Hot Sheets brings each of us enormous joy and keeps us on our toes."
"All-female bands are a novelty in most communities, and even more so when it comes to punk rock. This creates a lot of intrigue but sometimes the all-female aspect is as far as people see. We regularly get asked if we are a “lesbian band,” which makes no sense to us. What does that even mean? We know all-female punk rock is unique, and we enjoy that aspect of being a band, but we enjoy it more when people can rock out to our music, regardless of our gender. We hope that being female musicians brings a kind of joy and excitement that transcends being a mere oddity.

On June 21, 2016, Hot Sheets made their debut for Make Music Day Salem. We decided to perform for the first time just ten days prior, which gave us only four practice sessions to learn a song to play for the event.
We got the name Hot Sheets while the three of us joked about various sexual experiences over Springtime cocktails. We laughed about not liking to have sex on cold sheets, and how we all keep the sheets hot. So….. Hot Sheets!"
"People can expect to have a good time. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. We LOVE playing music together, which gives a real sense of togetherness and camaraderie. This is punk rock and we like to bring that imperfect, anarchist nature to our live shows. We hope to inspire people to do what they’re passionate about. It’s never too late and there’s no such thing as perfect. There’s joy in everything."
