KILLIN BAUDELAIRE

Killin’ Baudelaire are one of the new wave of alternative metal bands emerging from Italy and head into the year with new energy after an active time in 2017 that included touring in Europe and support of their debut release of It Tastes Like Sugar in late 2016.  Killin’ Baudelaire take their name from the literary world of French poet Charles Baudelaire from the 19th Century who was notable as an essayist, poet and pioneering translator of Edgar Allan Poe.  His style of prose-poetry influenced a whole generation of poets.

The band was formed in early 2015 and stabilized with the quartet of Elisa ‘Helly’ Scandella (vocals), Martina ‘Nixe’ Riva (guitars and backing vocals), Alice Lane Pandini (bass) and Martina ‘Cleo’ Ungarelli (drums and vocals).

“The band was originally formed by Nixe and Cleo, but then, after a line-up change, Helly and Alice joined us. The name wanted to be soft and quite mysterious as the themes of our lyrics ("Baudelaire") but at the same time strong and powerful as the genre we want to play ("Killin'").”

The girls combined their passion for music and literature fueled by a strong desire for creativity to put on an alternative edge to their music and sound.

“We really wanted to start our own originals and make something new and interesting. With this band, we can use our imagination and our feelings to write everything we want.  We dream big, we surely want to reach success. We'd like to play with bands we love but still, we want to do our own way, even if the path is long, hard and it gives very few chances.”

Killin’ Baudelaire are not caught up in egos and have a strong dedication to their music and careers and know that to get respect takes an effort first.  “You've got to be respectful at first. Then you have to show who you really are. Then, the most intelligent thing to do, whenever someone is disrespectful, is to go on and not to start a fight, or else, a useless war. That means that maybe you haven't been respected, yet you are a smarter and, after all, a happier person.  We just try to be the best that we can. Actually, we found very good and intelligent people during this little time. There's almost no need to show how girls can be same as boys, because people around us are smarter enough to understand it by themselves.”

“It is very hard to say; mostly it comes from natural inspiration, because we don't want to copy anyone. Maybe the first glimpse comes by nowhere and then we work on it together. Most of the times, the former idea becomes something completely different! But this is the magic of creating music.”

They released  their EP Tastes Like Sugar in 2016 which received great reviews throughout Europe.  “It is our very first issue and it came up in October 2016. It is made of three songs plus one cover, our version of "summertime sadness" by Lana del Rey. It was a strong experience for us, it took two/three months. It is a great pleasure to see people appreciating it.”

"It's feeling like we are a family. It is, at first, that we can count on each other. Then, sharing our music with people and see they like it, be on stage with the crowd singing your song is definitely part of the pleasure of doing what we do."

Killin’ Baudelaire have plenty to look forward to this year as they work on their debut full length LP and more shows and touring and doing what they all love in creating music.  You can find their music on Youtube, Spotify and Amazon.
