If you have not heard of Area 7 now is the time you need to know about this groundbreaking band who deliver potent rock and roll to the music world with an intensity and ferocity that deserves notice.  The all female band have been setting the pace for women in Peru since forming in 1999 and delivering hard rock and grunge music in their own style that will keep you coming back for more.  These rockers are pioneers in their country opening doors for other female artists to follow as the first all female rock band in Peru.  The current lineup includes Diana Foronda – Vocals; Fátima Foronda – Guitar, backing vocals; Ellis Sanches – guitarra rítmica; Evelyn Matos – Bass, backing vocals, and Illari Arbe – Drums.  The original members included Diana and Fatima Foronda, Josie Romani and Karol Uriol.

Sisters Diana and Fatima Foronda formed the band in 1999 and have not looked back dedicating themselves to overcome all of the obstacles and stereotypes for their passion of music.  They took the name Area 7 as tribute to their musical inspiration L7, and all female band from Los Angeles.  Diana Foronda said, "AREA 7 is the first female band Peru, we have 15 years of experience and we have worked hard to make a mark in the history of our country.  WHAT I HOPE TO ACHIEVE WITH THE BAND IS TO MAKE MORE RECORDS, LEAVE A LEGACY THAT NOBODY CAN CLEAR, I WANT MORE WITH OTHER EXPERIENCE musical genres."

 

Although times and attitudes have changed for the better over the years, Area 7 had to overcome the more typical stereotypes that women were not on the same level as their male band counterparts.  As for overcoming the barriers, Foronda said, "OUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE AS A FEMALE BAND SOCIETY IS FACING A "MACHO!" OFTEN WE TAKE SERIOUSLY, BELIEVED DESERVE A WORSE TIME TO PLAY, LESS MONEY, ALL HAPPENS IN LATIN AMERICA.  These stereotypes ONLY DOING THINGS ARE EXCEEDED, playing, doing shows, DOING MUSIC, IS THE ONLY WAY.  People may think we play because we like to LOOK, BUT THE TRUTH IS THAT THERE IS MAGIC IN ADDITION passion WITHIN A girl band, we love MUSIC AND ANY OTHER BAND."

 

It did not take long for Area 7 to become a national force in the music scene and they were taking their music live to other countries in South America and would release their debut self titled EP in 2004 with the first full length “Máquina de Almas”  in 2006.  A second full length CD was released in 2010 with 1.9.8.4.  In between the band went through some line up changes with sisters Diana and Fatima a stable force in the group.  "WHAT HAS HELPED TO PLAY BOTH YEARS IS CERTAIN take BREAKS TO COOL THE BAND, HAVE PATIENCE, UNDERSTANDING THAT THERE ARE ALSO MEMBERS CHANGES, WHEN SOMEONE KNOW AND UNDERSTAND DO NOT WANT TO TOUCH AND GO AHEAD," said Foronda.

Obviously, ONE OF OUR OBJECTIVES IS THIS, Foronda said, IN OUR COUNTRY THE GIRLS BANDS ARE SO GOOD. I HOPE GIRLS FEELS CONFIDENT FOR DOING MUSIC, ROCK MUSIC ON ALL PERÚ. THE PEOPLE SUPPORT OUR BAND IN PERU BECAUSE ALSO WE DOING MUSIC SO MANY YEARS,  PEOPLE KNOWS THE JOB WE DOING ALL THIS YEARS, PEOPLE SUPPORT US. 

Area 7 have gained a multitude of experience in the music business and have become an inspiration in their own right as one of the established bands from their country. "WHAT WE MAKE UP IN THIS INSPIRES NEW STAGE MUSICAL IS BASICALLY THE EXPERIENCES IN OUR YEARS OF EXPERIENCE, THE GOOD, THE BAD, WE LEARNED A LOT.
