2013 ROCK HALL INDUCTEES

 

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees will be officially inducted on April 18th at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles which will mark the first Hall induction on the West coast since 1993.  It will be historic as this is the first time that the bands and musicians inducted included input from the fans that were able to vote online.  To be inducted into the Hall an individual, artist or band must have released its first single at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination to the Rock Hall.  The inductees were chosen by more than 500 voters who are of the rock and roll Hall of Fame Foundation.

The live acts that were selected include Rush, Heart, Donna Summer, Public Enemy, Albert King, and Randy Newman.  Receiving the Ahmet Ertegun (non-performer) Award is Lou Adler and Quincy Jones.

 

Rush formed in 1968 in Canada and include Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart.  They were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994.  The have produced 24 Gold Records and 14 Platinum Records.  They are ranked third overall only behind the Beatles and Rolling Stones for the most consecutive Gold or Platinum album by a rock band.  They have sold over 40 million records world-wide.

 

Heart formed in 1973 and evolved out of White Heart and Hocus Pocus which began in 1967 and include sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson.  They have had Top 10 albums on the Billboard Album charts in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 2010’s.  The band also includes Ben Smith, Craig Bartock, Dan Rothchild and Debbie Shair. 

 

Public Enemy is a Hip Hop group that includes Chuck D, Flavor Fav, Professor Griff, DJ Lord (who replaced Terminator X in 1999) and music director Khari Wynn.  Formed in 1982 they are ranked #44 by Rolling Stone Magazine on its list of immortals: 100 greatest artists of all-time.  They were inducted in the long Island music hall of Fame in 2007.

 

Donna Summer is the queen of disco and a five time Grammy Award winner.  She is the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach number one on the U.S. Billboard Charts and charted four number-one singles in the United States in a 13-month period.  She passed away in May of 2012.

Randy Newman has won three Emmys and six Grammy Awards.  He has been nominated for 20 Academy Awards.  He won the Governor’s Award for the Recording Academy.  He was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2001.  In 2007 he was inducted as a Disney Legend.  He has performed from 1961-present.

 

Quincy Jones is a record producer, conductor, arranger, composer, television producer and trumpeter.  He has a record 79 Grammy nominations and 27 Grammys, including a Grammy Legend Award in 1991.  Jones was the producer of the album Thriller by Michael Jackson which has sold over 110 million copies world-wide.

 

Lou Adler is a record producer, manager, director and a co-owner of the famous Roxy Theatre.  He founded and co-owned Dunhill Records.   In 1975, Adler produced the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show and in 1981 its follow up, Shock Treatment.​

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is located in Cleveland, Ohio.
