THE LIZZIES

HARD METAL LIKE A FIST IN YOUR FACE

Look out because there is a hard rocking group of girls who will knock you out—with their hard driving riffs and zap you with their hooks.  You have been warned!  The Lizzies are delivering plenty of hot, hard-edged rock music to fill your thirst with and quench your rock and roll desires.  The Lizzies are an all female group out of Madrid, Spain, who formed in 2010 and are out for rock and roll blood. They include Hell End on vocals, PatriciaStrutteron guitar, Motorcycle Marina on bass and Saray Saez on the drums.  The band takes their name from the cult movie, The Warriors, from the girl gang in the film, which fit their attitude and style.  The girl gang in the movie had guns, a bar, played music and an attitude.  “W're a classic heavy metal band from Madrid, Spain, said Marina. It is a film about street gangs in New York in the late 70's. One of those gangs, called Lizzies, was formed by girls and they had a place with loud music, drinks, a billiard... we thought it was really cool and wanted to have a little piece of that great film in our band.”  It’s heavy metal like a fist in your face!”

The band attributes their edge to its influences that include Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Motorhead.  Patricia and me were tired of hanging out in the park in summer doing nothing, so we decided to learn to play guitar and bass, said Marina. Little by little we got better and really liked the feeling of playing music. The thirst for playing our own songs live made us take a step further and look for more people to play with. It was in that moment when we decided to have a band. The style... well, heavy metal is a big part of the music we listen to, so it was natural, we didn't need to think much about it.”

If you love heavy metal and powerful sounds then you will feel the power and attitude that the Lizzies deliver. “I don't think there's much to misunderstand about our band, I think it's really clear that Lizzies is about heavy metal. About other female bands, and well, probably us too, some people will say we're just an image "because we're girls". It's not about gender, it's about each band's attitude towards what they're doing, just have a look at some hard rock boy bands in the 80's.”

The Lizzies have been playing festivals in Europe in the UK to Germany to Sweden, which have brought memorable moments for the group.  “It's amazing when you are playing for a totally new and foreign crowd and they happen to know the lyrics. Just no words for it, only goose bumps and the biggest smile you could ever think of! Another highlight was opening one of the biggest festivals in Spain, Leyendas del Rock. We had a really big crowd despite the heat under the sun because it was summer.”

In 2013 the Lizzies released their debut EP End of Time that includes five songs and followed with a new single and video last year with Viper.  “We write about many things, from party, beer or road to religion and obscure stuff. We got inspiration from our own experiences or stories, music, films, books... The underground heavy metal scene in Spain is quite rich, there are lots of good bands and concerts and festivals going on. We've been accepted pretty well I think, especially when people don't know us and see us live. They usually get a really good feeling and say they really enjoyed the show! It's specially amazing when it comes from people in their forties or fifties saying we made them feel again as they were still in the 80's!”

The Lizzies look forward to creating more havoc and rock and roll in 2016 and bring again plenty of hard edged attitude for their fans to embrace.  For the band, being together and creating the sounds they love make it all worthwhile and part of the fun despite all the work they put into their music.

Basically having fun. But we saw the band as something else than just a mere hobby pretty much from the beginning. We love to be onstage, and it will be awesome if we can make a living out of it. So far we've played in many cool places and festivals with bands we've loved for years, so we could say yeah, we're achieving some goals and are having the time of our lives! But it's a long way to the top, and we're enjoying every single mile of it!  The best part of being in a band, and specially this one, is that we have a good friendship between us, have much fun and we all want the same things: beer and heavy metal haha! Being in a band is one of the hardest things you can ever experience, it requires a lot of work, patience... but it's also one of the most rewarding experiences. Tasting the result of hard work is one of the best things out there! Well, there's always the stereotype of the "nice looking girl unable to play", but after the first decibels going out from the amps, those few people shut their mouths forever.
