Revolution Eve

Ready to revolt...ready to rock and roll

IAre you ready for a revolution?  If ever there were a time and place as we move forward Revolution Eve may be just the band to get things started with their fiery music and approach to rock and roll.

Revolution Eve have only been together for a few months forming in 2012 but are already making waves in the German music scene with their heavy post alternative driving sound.  They bring solid ability to the stage that takes well deserved notice that these ladies know how to play and deliver a knockout punch with their stage looks and presence.  Revolution Eve won the Newcomer Band Casting and played at the Women of World Festival on April 5th in Frankfurt opening for famed German musical artist Jennifer Rostock.  Blout said the band received the news live on the radio when the phone rang and it was one of the regions largest and most popular radio stations making the announcement on the air as they received the call  as the winner of Germany’s Newcomer Band of Choice during the Frankfurt Musik Messe WOTW Festival this April 2013.

Diana Nagel leads the vocals with Maria Kimberly Huehn on guitar, Conny Marschall on bass, Simone Wenzel on rhythm guitar and Nikke Blout on drums.  The band is from Frankfurt, Germany.  Nikke Blout who joined the band on drums is originally from Orange County, California and provided the commentary on the band that do perform and record all of its music in English to gain greater accessibility to the world-wide music market.
As for the name, Revolution Eve, Blout says, “Think ‘on the brink of change’. You know, there will always be an ongoing multitude of external factors in our lives every day that stand to shape who we are and what we stand for – politically, socially, environmentally, etc. They eventually either empower us with fortitude, or cripple us with fear – it just depends on who we are and how we deal with life’s consequences. We came up with the name Revolution Eve because it reminds us to stay awake, value our own integrity and not to lead a life in fear. It’s like every day can be the dawning of …or the ‘eve’ of an inner ‘revolution’ when you are ready to face your fears and break the chains that bind your spirit.”

That we are a group of five gals who recently came together to put our musical acumen and love for stage together in order to create and perform music that we not only enjoy, but that also drives people to ‘feel’ alive. Currently, we’re mixing modern dubstep beats with hardrock drums and metal guitars so I guess this makes us a post-alternative-rock band. It’s a heavy sound, but it still grooves.

The band has a solid foundation with experienced musicians who come together to create a powerful sound
It seems like on almost every level, this is a group of very capable, skilled and can-do-attitude gals, who are just as professional as they are passionate about our project. I think with all our personalities combined, the result is healthy mix of being serious and focused while still being crazy, creative and fun. We all have experienced each other’s good days and bad days so far, but no one ever takes anything too personally. Staying considerate and mindful of each other and of the holistic picture helps keep it all real and human.

While the band is still relatively new to the music world, Blout says the focus is on creating music and working as a cohesive team. “Internally: That we continue to work well as a team – keeping it fun, keeping it rocking.
Externally: That we continue to create our own music put on shows that really rock people and grow our fan base over the next years. When people like our music and when we’re able to reach people with music that evokes energy and emotion, for us, that’s the ultimate exchange. For instance, we are finding it very cool that the chorus lyrics “wake up” in our recent debut song and music video “Arise” seem to be the most catchy for so many, while being a good message too.

We are pleased to say that only after a few months of forming the band; we’re already gaining much traction and acceptance in the music scene. We have surprisingly already won the “Newcomer Band of Choice” for the Frankfurt Musik Messe’s WOTW Festival happening over a span of eight days during April 2013. We are completely beside ourselves to be the opening act for Jennifer Rostock, a well-known artist here in Germany and Europe. And as we kick off our 2013 tour, our outlook is that the night is still young and the ‘eve’ is just getting started (smile).

We are already working on the new EP titled ‘Arise’. Release date could be this year, but as we are new on the scene, we also want to take into consideration getting to know our audience better, and having a plan without rushing forward just because. We are already playing our initial songs out live and making some singles available for download on iTunes, Amazon, etc. This helps us to gauge how the crowd is reacting to our music and discovering which songs are being favored, etc. As we continue to perform, upload media, interact with fans and even interact with each other, new ideas arise. And in this day of the digital era, we keep in mind the idea of having a ‘song-based’ release strategy and dates, as well as an album-based one.

We don´t want to write another ‘love song’ or ‘hate song’. Normally, we start with an undeniable feeling like ‘excitement’, ‘rage’, ‘frustration’, or whatever reflects the latest dramatic scene from our emotional body. But we don’t stop there; we travel deeper into ourselves to find out why these feelings came about in the first place. As feelings are merely indicators of a deeper issue or cause, it’s important to explore further toward the root of it all. So the listener can connect or relate beyond our music, lyrics are also very important to us. They not only facilitate our own self-expression, but they can hopefully also serve as a vehicle for others to tap into their own inner thoughts and feelings. There is nothing more fulfilling in creating music that helps you explore and express yourself than helping others do the same while they listen ‘in’ to your music. For any band that has or will become ‘famous’, we think it is so much cooler or purposeful when you use the opportunity to pay your music forward like that.
Definitely an explosive, all-female, sexy rock show like nothing you’ve experienced today. Although it’s a sound we have all our own, the demanding and driving compositions, some say, might take you in the neighborhood of Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, Skunk Anansie and Guano Apes. Diana’s melodic and powerful voice, ranging from soft and melancholic to aggressive and lashing, adds to our signature sound and we work hard to deliver a live show that pumps out a high-energy charge to really move and rock people.
.Something we would very much welcome, yes! But still, this is not our main focus or that of our music. Generally speaking, it is our goal to empower people everywhere to wake up to and believe in themselves. Things that have influenced and inspired us are when others share their story or lead by example. I suppose that through the sharing of our music, sharing of our experiences, and through our work together as a band, we hope to be fortunate enough to impact and influence others all the same.

When it comes to comparing the European German music scene with that in the United States, Blout says,  “Hmmm, that’s a tough one to answer for me because music is music where ever you go and thanks to the Internet, it pretty much doesn’t matter where the music is coming from as long as you like it. But that’s recorded music, the live scene is definitely different for me. When I lived in Los Angeles, there were loads of venues we played at, but there were also that many more bands to compete with. I also think the German music scene is much more dominant in electronic music and hip-hop at the moment although there is definitely a hardcore scene with the likes of Rammstein, Oomph, Guano Apes, Die Happy, Bohse Onkelz, and Tokio Hotel to name a few. Being the third largest music market in the world behind the US and Japan, the German music scene also has a multitude of concert venues, enjoys a multitude of music festivals throughout Spring and Summer and just about all the most well-known international acts tour here.
Although we’re a predominantly German band, all our lyrics are all in English. We aim to expand our presence by touring and selling our music elsewhere in Europe and eventually in the US.
After a good run of founding the band, creating songs, recording them in a professional studio, establishing our presence online and now offline by kicking off our 2013 tour, our next priority is getting our recorded material out there. While we work on creating our first album EP, by the time of this article goes to publishing, you can find some of our initial singles available for download on iTunes and Amazon along with other channels like Spotify, Last.fm, etc. Pandora one day soon.
