PL Girls ready to set the world on Fire!

It’s time to run for cover because the PL Girls are ready to set the music world on fire with their blistering fiery glam rock that is full of energy and passion. If you like glam rock that ranges from David Bowie to the Stooges then you will want to be looking for the PL Girls—an all-female rock band out of Madrid, Spain. The four member band have been playing for three years and just released their debut LP with a tour to begin called ON Fire! The band includes Ashen on guitar, Gemstar on guitar, Tania on bass and Mad Nicky on drums. In addition to the new album release and tour, Warner Brothers Records is distributing their release which is providing the band with plenty of attention.
As for the meaning of PL Girls, Nicky said, “It's not something easy to explain. When we met, we were hanging out one night and it came out... It doesn't have a literal meaning, but it's something beyond meaning... it's a feeling, an attitude... something that's inside our souls, that you can feel in our gigs... and when you feel it, you turn yourself into a PL Girl.”
As for the band’s energy and chemistry, it explodes in a live performance. “Energy!” states Nicky. We give all we got at every show, and try to make people feel as we do. We go wild. You can see the bassist playing through the crowd, or the singer jumping from the drums while banging her guitar... everything between frantic riffs and potent bases!”
Nicky said the band came together after the girls met having played in other teen bands. The ideas stuck and everything fell into place. “We were about 15 years old, and we were playing in other teen bands, but we met and decided to start a new band. We liked the idea of start an all-girl-band... so we started playing... till now! We wanted an all-girl-band and it just happened.”
And the PL Girls are one of the few all-girl bands that are in Spain where the industry is male dominated. “It's not common to see female rock bands in Spain, so some people at a first sight think we are something like a dance group, or just a marketing game... luckily they change their mind when they see us play. We also have some kind of trouble with people thinking that we can't manage to get things just because of our hard work in music... as we are women we must have done some kind of dirty job to get it. This is because we still live in a sexist society, and rock is still pretty male territory... but anyway... we don't really care about that. We enjoy what we do and we are trying to change this situation... Happily there are a lot of people with an open mind.”
“We are influenced by a wide variety of bands and different genres... from classic rock, psychedelic rock... to hard rock, grunge, garage, glam rock... Almost everything from 70's to 90's. Maybe the bands that more influence us are Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam, David Bowie, T Rex, The Who, The Doors, Iggy & Stooges, and Pearl Jam.”
Life, Nicky said, is where the band gets inspiration to write and drive out the energy in their music.
“It’s life. Everything we feel. Passion, rage, freedom... we try to create parallel worlds, dreams, and make people feel part of it, make our music part of their lives... so everything that moves us inside is inspirational.”
As with most place globally, the glam rock and heavy rock scene in Spain have diminished to an extent, but remain strong in support for the music their loyal fans love and support. “There's a lot of music offer, lots of new bands, and interesting shows to see every night... but general population is not really into rock. The good thing is that rock people are true to rock, so the scene is always alive. We're like fresh stuff... lots of people was waiting for something like us, and its great! As for every band, the biggest obstacle is that we're living hard times, and music has never been an easy job, so we're fighting to get our spot and keep on making music.”
