THE VOID

4 WOMEN ROCKING INDIA...

When you have a void in your life there needs to be a resolution, something to fill this space with.  For the members of The Void,
music was the ultimate answer and playing rock and roll made it a reality about a year ago.  The Void would be filled when
Liza Lyngdoh (guitar/vocals), Rithika Perumal (bass), and Vinaya Mary Grace would meet at school and participate on the

basketball team where they found the need to put the band together.  They would find Suvarna Magaji to join as drummer. They hail form Bangalore in India and play alternative rock that has influences including pop, classic, punk and reggae to create a  diverse sound.  "Our story is too Bollywood, said Lyngdoh. Three of us study in the same college and we are a part of the basketball team.  We were getting to know each other and learnt that we all have the same field of interest and  know to play an
instrument. That, we think was the spark to our fire. We began to look for a drummer and eventually found one after trying a few. Since then we have been on a roll. To speak of influence in particular, we would say, just our love for MUSIC. It basically depicts our life's state of nothingness. The Void means empty. Our lives are empty. So, this is our attempt to fill in the emptiness of our monotonous lives and help ourselves. Sometimes, we happen to add a little symphony to someone else's life, knowingly or unknowingly."

The Void are breaking the stereotypes with their line-up and as four women who defy the typical in India. "The general idea that one has when we talk about a band is 'boys' We want to break the idea that people hold.  In a country like ours, this sorta stuff is quite unsual. It sure breaks the stereotypes. When you see four girls on stage, you are astronished. At the end of it, you know the scenes are getting better. We are pretty particular about people judging us. We like to judged as musicians and not on gender basis.  We emphasize the most on lyrics. Our music is more on the lines of Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Mumford and
Sons and other such bands."

They have musical influences including Nirvana, Guns N Roses, ACDC, Alter Bridge, The Fray and One Republic, going from
pop to metal music.  They are inspired about everyday life which they turn into music as well as a form of freedom for the
girls.  "Writing is a form of freedom in itself. Our everyday life dramas, the set of circumstances in which we  find ourselves is what inspires us. We write about love, life, death and things alike."

The band has already achieved success in the short period they have been together.  They were most recently part of
the Strawberry Fields  fest in December and January and included in the One Bengaluru Festival hosted by the Bangalore
Mirror and Times of India which saw the best bands of Bangalore together on stage for one event. They also have plans
to record to songs to be released early this year.  "We have a simple aim as a band. To make good music and help
someone find solace in it. Also, we secretly wish to play with/for Coldplay.  Another thing that we consider as an  accomplishment on a personal level is that we have not let the band fade and die with time. No matter what we face from family and society, we have kept The Void going."
